  • ✕Coverage stated three ways: 3,000, 4,000 and 5,000 sq ft

Who this unit is for

The Smart Vac SMP400 is for a small home, under about 3,000 sq ft, whose owner wants a hybrid bag-or-bagless unit and is replacing something similar, specifically the Honeywell 4B-H403 the listing names. It is a low-voltage unit that plugs into a standard outlet.

It is a hard unit to recommend to anyone else, because the listing is the only source and it leaves most of the spec sheet blank.

What the specs tell you

The listing gives 550 air watts and a 13.4 A draw from a soft-start motor. Air watts predicts carpet cleaning at the tool; 550 is at the low end of residential units in our records and matches NuTone’s PP5501. Water lift, the sealed-suction figure that tells you how the unit handles pipe length and climbs, is not published, and neither is CFM. For a 3,000 sq ft home with a short run that gap matters less, but we cannot say how it behaves at a far inlet.

Noise is not published. Weight and dimensions are not published either, which makes it impossible to plan the mounting wall from the listing.

Collection is hybrid: bag or bagless with what a retailer calls a self-cleaning filter, into a 15 L / 4 gal capacity. The listing’s filter field says cartridge. Hybrid gives you the choice between clean bag changes and no consumables, but no bag part number is in the record.

Coverage is stated three ways: up to 3,000 sq ft, usable to 5,000, and about 4,000 from a retailer. We record 3,000.

Fit and compatibility

Standard 2-inch pipe, wall bracket mount. The record lists low-voltage inlet operation only; direct-connect electric is not listed. Plug-in 120V, not hardwired. The listing says the unit turns on as soon as it is plugged in, which likely describes power-up rather than motor start, but clarify that with the seller. Exhaust outside is recommended; the listing describes venting outdoors from a basement or garage. The body is described as vinyl.

What’s in the box, and what you still need

The record lists nothing specific as included. Not included: hose and attachments, pipe, fittings and inlets. Confirm with the seller whether a bracket, bag and filter ship with it. Add an exhaust cap.

Warranty and support

No warranty term was found for this listing. Brand-level context: Smart Vac is a Nuera Air / Trovac Industries brand. Trovac’s warranty page says it covers all Smart units manufactured as of September 2024 by Les Industries Trovac, with Smart 400/500 motors and electrical components at 5 years parts and 1 year labor plus a limited lifetime warranty on the canister for the original owner at the original site. The October 2025 manual requires the original invoice, repairs by an authorized Smart service center with Smart or Trovac parts, and genuine Smart bags, and says terms may vary by country.

The catch: warranty terms for pre-September-2024, Nuera-era SMP400 units were not found, and the Amazon listing names no manufacturer, lists the brand as smart and the seller as RAW Tech. Whether a unit bought from that listing is a Trovac-built unit under Trovac’s warranty is unknown. No marketplace language appears in Trovac’s Smart terms.

Living with it

Hybrid operation means you can run bagless and dump the 4 gal canister or fit bags; genuine Smart bags are a warranty condition under Trovac’s terms, so identify the bag part number. The self-cleaning filter should need only occasional attention, but with no manual in the record, ask for one.

With no noise figure, mount it in a garage or basement utility area and vent outside as the listing suggests.
