A 14 in wide electric brush roll with 4 height positions, a Poly-V quiet belt and a headlight, on a flush integrated wand; needs a 120 V electric hose.
Pet hair is a system problem, not a power-unit problem. The unit needs enough water lift to pull hair through long pipe, the collection needs to seal hair and dander when you empty it, and, if you have carpet, the floor tool needs its own motor. So this list covers three power units, two electric powerheads and the hose that powers them.
Power units were ranked on manufacturer-published air watts and water lift, filtration and bag option, warranty and inlet compatibility. Powerheads were ranked on brush width, height adjustment, belt design and how they connect. Where a figure comes from a retailer rather than the maker we say so.

1. OVO 700ST-35H: best power unit
Hair is light but bulky, and the OVO 700’s 140 in of water lift and 700 air watts keep it moving through long runs. The 35 L hybrid canister means you can run a 22.5 L disposable bag during shedding season and go bagless the rest of the year, with the washable FP-12 permanent filter in place either way. OVO rates it for 8,000 sq ft and 8 inlets at 63 dB, and the warranty is 10 years on parts and 1 year labor (filter replaced every 2 years, bags changed at least twice a year).
Skip it if you want to buy direct from OVO; the 700 was not on its storefront in October 2026.
2. VacuMaid SR66: best bagged for pets
If anyone in the house reacts to dander, the SR66’s sealed HPB2H HEPA-style bag is the cleanest way to empty a central vacuum. The 6.6 in Ametek Lamb 2-stage tangential bypass motor is rated for about 1,500 hours and keeps its cooling air separate from the dirty air, which matters when bags fill fast. Published figures are 663 air watts, 139 CFM, 132 in water lift, 58 dB vented and a 10,000 sq ft rating. Lifetime canister warranty, 10 years on the motor.
Skip it if you want the option to run bagless.
3. Beam 475: best premium
Beam’s self-cleaning GORE membrane filter is designed not to load up with fine dust, which is the usual failure of a bagless unit in a pet home, and the 475 runs with or without a bag. Figures are 659 air watts, 144.9 in water lift and 135.8 CFM, rated for 10,000 sq ft. Warranty is 10 years or 750 hours on parts, 1 year labor (a second Beam table says 7 years for this model). Beam is a dealer brand owned by Trovac Industries since June 2024; only units built from September 2024 carry the Trovac warranty, and noise is not yet published.
Skip it if you want to buy online with a clear warranty path.
4. Cen-Tec CT20QD: best electric powerhead
The CT20QD is a 14 in wide electric nozzle on a flush integrated wand with 4 height positions, a Poly-V Quiet Drive belt, a headlight and an EZ Release quick-release neck. It weighs 8.18 lb with the wand and 5.3 lb bare. It needs a 120 V total-control electric hose. Cen-Tec does not publish a warranty term for it.
Skip it if your hose is low-voltage and you do not want to replace it.
5. Wessel-Werk EBK 360: best for stairs and furniture legs
The EBK 360’s double swivel neck turns 180 degrees, a pedal sets 5 brush heights, the enclosed cogged belt is side-mounted, and the head switches off when you stand it upright. It is sold on an integrated electric wand with a headlight, made in Germany according to retailers. Working width is around 12 in but not verified, and motor wattage is stated inconsistently (300 or 350 W), so we do not record it.
The US integrated-wand versions are built for particular hose families (Plastiflex, Beam, Electrolux, Vacuflo), and the Amazon listing does not state which, so confirm the connector matches your hose before buying.
Skip it if you cannot confirm the wand plug matches your electric hose.
6. OVO 35 ft dual-voltage hose: the hose to power the head
This is the piece most pet-hair shoppers forget. The OVO dual-voltage hose has a standard low-voltage wall end plus a pigtail power cord, and a 3-way switch at the handle: off, unit on, unit plus powerhead. It is crushproof and carries OVO’s 2-year hose warranty. The pigtail cord is 72 in on the 30 and 40 ft siblings; OVO does not confirm the length for the 35 ft version.
Skip it if you already have direct-connect electric inlets; a direct-connect hose such as the NuTone CH515 avoids the pigtail entirely.
What to check before you buy
Floor type. Carpet needs an electric head. Hard floors can use a floor brush and skip the hose upgrade.
Inlet type.Identify your inlets. Low-voltage inlets need a pigtail hose for an electric head; direct-connect inlets take a direct-connect hose.
Wand connector. Electric powerheads and hoses must match at the handle. Ask the seller which hose family the wand fits.
Bag supply. Buy spare bags with the unit; pet homes go through them faster.
Exhaust. All three units recommend venting outside, which also moves dander out of the house.
Brush roll maintenance. Plan to cut wrapped hair off the roll regularly.
For carpet and rugs, yes. An electric powerhead has its own motor spinning the brush roll, so it keeps lifting hair when the pile pushes back. An air-driven turbine head slows down on thick carpet and when the hose is long. On hard floors only, a good floor brush and strong suction are enough.
What kind of hose do I need for an electric powerhead?+
One that carries 120 V to the head. Either a direct-connect electric hose that plugs into a direct-connect electric inlet, or a dual-voltage pigtail hose that plugs into a standard low-voltage inlet and has a short power cord you plug into a wall outlet. A plain low-voltage hose cannot run an electric head.
Bagged or bagless for pets?+
Bagged, or a hybrid run with the bag in. Pet hair fills a bin fast and dander goes airborne when you empty it. The OVO 700 and Beam 475 are hybrids; the VacuMaid SR66 is bag-only with HEPA-style media. All three recommend venting the exhaust outside.
Will pet hair clog a central vacuum?+
Hair itself rarely clogs 2-inch pipe. Clogs come from hair wrapped around something larger: a sock, a toy, a clump of litter. Check the brush roll for wrapped hair regularly and keep the inlets clear. Our clearing a clog guide covers the fix if it happens.
How often do I change the bag with pets?+
More often than the manufacturer's typical interval. OVO requires bags be changed at least twice a year to keep the warranty; a shedding dog in a carpeted house may need bags changed several times more than that. Check the bag by sight rather than waiting for suction to fall.
Can I use the Wessel-Werk EBK 360 with my existing hose?+
Only if your hose is electric (direct-connect or pigtail) and its handle end matches the wand's plug. US integrated-wand versions of the EBK 360 are built for specific hose families, and the Amazon listing does not say which. Confirm the connector with the seller before buying.
