Who this unit is for
The VacuMaid SR14 is for a homeowner who wants strong suction and a quiet unit, and who is comfortable with a cloth-bag cyclonic design. VacuMaid rates it for 6,000 sq ft, a conservative figure given its numbers. It is built by Lindsay Manufacturing in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
It suits replacement buyers on a standard 2-inch system and new installs alike. The front utility valve is a bonus for anyone whose power unit sits in the garage.
What the specs tell you
VacuMaid’s spec sheet lists 740 air watts, 138 in of water lift and 138 CFM from an Ametek Lamb 5.7 in ULTRA 2-stage flow-thru motor drawing 14.5 A. Air watts predicts carpet cleaning at the tool; 740 is the highest figure in our records alongside Imperium’s unverified CV300 claim. Water lift is sealed suction for long runs and climbs; 138 in is strong. CFM is airflow; 138 is strong too. All three are high and in balance, which is the profile you want.
Noise is 58 dB with vented exhaust, tied with the SR66 for the quietest in our records.
Collection is cyclonic with an inverted cloth bag acting as the filter barrier. You empty the 27 qt dirt can and occasionally shake out or wash the cloth bag. With VacuMaid’s optional special stem you can run a sealed paper bag instead, which is why the record calls it hybrid. The trade-off: the cloth bag means no consumables but more handling; the paper bag is cleaner but needs the stem and bags.
Weight is not published. The Amazon listing figures match the spec sheet exactly, which is reassuring.
Fit and compatibility
Standard 2-inch pipe, wall bracket mount. VacuMaid lists low-voltage and direct-connect electric inlet compatibility. Plug-in 120V, 14.5 A; not hardwired.
Exhaust outside is recommended and the 58 dB figure assumes it. Dimensions are 12.875 in diameter by 39.875 in high, so plan on 40 in of wall plus room beneath to drop the dirt can.
What’s in the box, and what you still need
In the box: the power unit with front utility valve and the inverted cloth bag.
Not included: the optional paper-bag stem, hose and attachments, pipe, fittings and inlets. The record does not list a bracket; confirm with the seller. Add an exhaust cap and, if you want paper bags, the stem and bags.
Warranty and support
VacuMaid’s product page states a 10 Year Limited Lifetime Warranty. The warranty page breaks that into lifetime limited on the canister and 10 years on the motor and internal electrical, for the original owner on US-sold units. Non-transferable; void if serviced by anyone other than an authorized dealer with replacement parts; claims go first to the authorized dealer-installer.
VacuMaid’s warranty page does not mention Amazon, eBay or unauthorized sellers. Lindsay Manufacturing sells at least one VacuMaid unit on Amazon directly, so check the seller name on the listing you buy from.
Living with it
Routine maintenance is emptying the 27 qt dirt can and caring for the inverted cloth bag, which you shake out or wash as it loads up. If you add the paper-bag stem, bag changes replace that chore. The record gives no change intervals; let suction at the far inlet be your guide.
The front utility valve lets you plug a hose in at the unit for the garage or car. At 58 dB vented, this is as quiet as full-size units get in our records, but still vent it outside and keep it off bedroom walls.
What we’d verify before buying
- Weight: not published.
- Whether a wall bracket ships with the unit; the record does not list one.
- The part number for the optional paper-bag stem and compatible bags.
- Current production status, given its absence from the disposable-bag lineup page.
- Amazon seller name, to know whether you are buying from Lindsay or a dealer.
